Shouldn't someone be driving YOU around, Princess?

Bonjour from Montreal! Or as we say..."What the heck does that sign say?? Where did all the English signs go???"

It's been another exciting day on the road for these three traveling chicas, and tonight we've found ourselves back in Canada. Our morning started with a free hot breakfast that was taken away while we stood trying to decide between cold cereal, oatmeal, and freshly made waffles. Apparently they're not joking when they say breakfast ends at 9:30. Exactly. So we ate another breakfast of Cheerios or yogurt and bananas in the car on our way out of Rochester, NY. Nancita took the wheel today and after her first two turns were in the wrong direction she wondered aloud if it was really her day to drive, but we cheered her on and off we went.

As it's Day 4 of East Coast Road Trip 2009 we think it's time to give a shout-out to some of our favorite road trip tunes so far. We've decided (after several hours of singing along to the 90's station on Sirius) that our road trip theme song has to be How Bizarre by OMC, with honorable mention going to I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) by The Proclaimers and That's Not My Name by The Ting Tings. To keep ourselves from getting delirious, every so often someone will yell out, “Dance Interlude!!” and everyone will break into dance. As a result, there now seems to be an official road trip dance move. It looks like something out of a Billy Blanks workout video and involves discoteca sound effects by Colleen. Don’t worry, Eva—we’ll teach it to you as soon as you get here!

I think Nancy talked about the Road Trip Princess Tiara in her blog yesterday. We have determined that there are two reasons that someone may be granted the tiara:
1) If they act like a diva.
2) If they do something great to contribute to the trip.
For example, Colleen got the tiara for asking why we didn’t have green M&M’s for her, and I got it for scoring us a free hotel room tonight. I can’t remember why Nancy got it, but let’s just say she spent most of the day in it!!

Nancy drove us all the way to Montreal today (5.5 hours) and one of our favorite moments came when we reached the Canadian border. Border patrol is pretty serious and we’re…well…we’re not. We had to pay a toll as we exited New York and entered Canada, and as Nancy pulled up to the toll booth and rolled down her window the guy working the toll booth grinned at her, “Hey Princess, how are you? Must be rough, eh? Shouldn’t someone be driving YOU around?” None of us remembered til then that she was wearing the tiara and the toll booth worker with his long grey ponytail laughed as hard as we did as Nancy blushed with embarrassment. Oops! We had a little trouble getting ourselves together before facing Border Patrol, but fortunately we got through with no problems.

When we arrived in Montreal this afternoon we got ourselves checked into a hotel and after having to explain the tiara to the hotel staff twice we headed downtown for dinner. We went to a restaurant recommended by the hotel and ended up eating on the patio at an adorable restaurant overlooking Rue Crescent (ooh la la!). The waitress kept speaking to us in French and every time she did it Colleen looked like she was staring at a velociraptor. Seriously, they speak a lot of French here! It’s fun feeling like we’re in another country, though. Especially since…you know…we are. And since we are, we decided we needed to eat some French food, so naturally crepes were the way to go. We stopped at a little corner crepery after dinner and Nancy had a strawberry cheesecake crepe while Colleen and I had Nutella crepes. (Mmm…Nutella.) After dessert we scoped out the site of the Montreal Jazz Festival, which starts tomorrow night. Such a bummer that we’re missing it by one day! Stevie Wonder is apparently playing tomorrow night, too. It was fun walking around and seeing the set-up though, and we sat by a fountain and people-watched for a bit before deciding it was time to head back to the hotel for the night (but not before Nancy announced that there was a mosquito in the middle of Colleen’s forehead and got her to smack herself directly in the face).

Sooo…now Pants is in bed, Colleen just added some ice to Big Blue (shout out to Julia and Jon!), and she and I are finishing up the blog for the day. Tomorrow we’re headed back to the States, where we’re sure to enjoy reading road signs in English again. One of our trip highlights is on the agenda for tomorrow, but I don’t want to ruin it for you, so check back tomorrow to hear all about it. We can’t wait!
